12 foreign crewmen rescued near Da Nang
Vietnamese border guards on November 3 rescued 12 foreign crewmembers from a sinking Cambodian cargo ship off the My Khe coast near Da Nang city.

Of the rescued stevedores, 8 were Chinese and 4 Myanmarese.

On November 2, the Lucky Dragon, which was carrying 2,600 tonnes of rolled steel en route from China to Ho Chi Minh City, signaled SOS after a fire broke out in the main engine room. The ship was seeking a storm shelter off the coast of Da Nang City.

On receiving the signal, municipal border guards deployed boat HQ952 to help with rescue efforts, but rough seas made it difficult for them to reach the sinking ship. It was not until 10.00am they succeeded in rescuing all the crewmen to bring the operation to an end. The ship sank about 100m off shore.

The crewmen received medical check-ups at municipal clinics and hospitals.

Relevant agencies are working closely with the diplomatic missions of China and Myanmar and the ship’s owner to retrieve the sunken ship.
