A lawyer defies law
Last weekend, a lawyer was arrested for breaching Article 88 of Vietnam’s Penal Code after he was found to “collude with domestic and foreign reactionaries to sabotage the Vietnamese State”.

This led to the arrest on June 13 of Le Cong Dinh (alias Nguyen Kha, Paul), 41, a resident of Tan Phong Ward, in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7, who set up Le Cong Dinh one-member limited liability law company earlier  this year.

Graduated from the Ho Chi Minh Law University in 1989, Dinh started working as a notary public in Ho Chi Minh City, a legal expert for the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the chief lawyer of the DC Lawyer Office. He held the position of vice chairman of the HCM City Bar Association during 2005-08.

According to the Investigation Security Agency under the Ministry of Public Security, Dinh has over the past several years directly compiled documents published on overseas reactionary websites and other media distorting the Party and the State’s policies and laws.

In those documents, Dinh also called for replacement of the Communist Party leadership and took advantage of the bauxite mining issue in the Central Highlands as well as the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa islands issues to stir up thoughts against the Party and the State. He wrote articles defaming a number of Party and Government officials.

Moreover, Dinh colluded with Nguyen Sy Binh, who led the US-based exiled reactionary organisation called “the people’s party of action” and the “Vietnam democratic party” to draw up contingency plans and measures to expand the organisation’s operation.

In particular, Dinh has actively taken part in the compilation of a book called “the Vietnam road”, which charts a course of action for the exiled organisation and directly compiled a “new constitution”, which comprises nine chapters with 106 articles, for a new government in case the current government is overthrown.

Undoubtedly, Le Cong Dinh’s actions go against law and should be punished by law.
