Speaking at the signing ceremony, UNV’s representative in Vietnam, Sandra Veloso, and representative from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam, Setsuko Yamazaki, pledged to cooperate with relevant Vietnamese agencies in building a strategy for developing volunteerism in the country.
The project, which has been approved by the Prime Minister, has a total investment of more than US$1 million, and will be carried out in three years.
Under the project, an information centre will be set up to provide information relating to volunteer activities and voluntary organisations in Vietnam, as well as methods to increase the effectiveness of these activities. The centre also aims to support young people, especially those who need vocational training to seek jobs.
In recent years, volunteer activities have been increasingly promoted in Vietnam, drawing a large number of young people, and have received great praise for their useful and practical contributions.
The volunteer movement has created a good environment for young people to get training and make meaningful contributions to the country’s socio-economic development.
