Children with cleft palates sent to RoK for operation
Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam, part of the Doosan Group, collaborated with Chung Ang Medical University to send 4 Vietnamese children with cleft palates to the Republic of Korea from February 9-17 for corrective surgery.

The 4 children were selected from disadvantages families by the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee. These children have undergone surgery several times before but all have failed to regain a normal appearance.

The Doosan Group will pay for family members to come with them for operation in 9 days at Chung Ang Medical University, a leading medical university in Seoul.

The main surgeon for these children will be Tae-Hee Bae, a world famous expert in this field who teaches at Chung Ang University. He operated on 20 Vietnamese children during Operation Smile in Quang Ngai last July.

This is the second time the the Doosan Group and Chung Ang Medical University have organised this kind of medical charity action. The two signed a permanent medical support commitment with the Quang Ngai People’s Committee last May. The organisations have provided medical check-ups and medicines for around 1,000 people and operations for 29 children.

Last year, Doosan Vietnam coordinated with Yong Kang to grant scholarships worth US$34,000 to 150 students at 9 universities. It donated VND200 million in cash to the Quang Ngai provincial Fatherland Front and VND111 million in food to the province’s Binh Son and Ly Son districts to all victims of recent floods and storms. The organistion also provided computers, tables and other education equipment to two schools in Binh Son, worth approximately US$8,500.
