Deputy Health Minister Trinh Quan Huan (L) meets with Vietnam's first A/H1N1 patient |
A 39-year-old mother, whose daughter had been confirmed to be infected with the disease, tested positive for the virus, said Dr Nguyen Huy Nga, Head of the Department for Preventive Medicine and the Environment under the Ministry of Health.
Both the woman and her six-year-old daughter, who bear American citizenship, had just returned to Vietnam from Texas in the US and stayed in the southern province of Dong Nai.
Given that, the Health Ministry has quarantined the two new patients in Children’s Hospital No 2 in HCM City and disinfected their entire family. It has also made a list of and supervised 171 passengers who were on the same flight OZ 731 with the two new patients. The flight transited in the Republic of Korea and arrived at Tan Son Nhat airport at 11pm on May 29.
As of June 5, Vietnam has seen five cases of the A/H1N1 flu virus. All are in good condition.
To better cope with the disease, the Ministry of Health has continued to recommend that people take preventive measures seriously. Those returning from the affected countries are asked to inform medical establishments in their residential areas about their return. Those suspected of having the flu must strictly follow the guidance from medical authorities to prevent the disease from spreading.
The ministry has called for additional preventive activities within the community, such as cleaning up the residential areas and improving health services. It has also set up medical hot lines at various levels for serious flu or pneumonia cases.
