First overseas Vietnamese appointed German Minister of Health
Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has appointed Philipp Roesler Minister of Health in her new cabinet.

Philipp Roesler was born in southern Khanh Hoa province in 1973. When he was 9 years old, he was adopted by a German family. At 19, he started studying at the University of Medicine in Hanover City. In 1996, after 4 years of taking part in the Free Democratic Party, he was then elected chairman of the Party’s Youth Union.

In 2000, Philipp Roseler was appointed the Party’s General Secretary. In 2003, at the age of 30, he became a member of Niedersachsen’s Federal Assembly. In 2009, he was elected as Germany’s Minister of Health.

He is not only the youngest minister in Germany but also the first Vietnamese German as well as the first minister of Asian origin to assume a high-ranking political position in the German government.
