Five more golds for Vietnam at AIG III
SEA Games medallist Vu Thi Huong on October 31 defeated Khubbieva Guzel of Uzbekistan in the 60-m women’s final to take a gold medal for Vietnam.

The Vietnamese sprinter finished first, clocking 07”24 while her Uzbekistan opponent came second with a time of 07”39.

Huong has succeeded in the 100m and 200m events. At the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand, she brought home two gold medals in these two events. However, she decided to run in the 60m race at AIG III, saying it is a new challenge to her.

Meanwhile, Huong teammate, Truong Thanh Hang – another hopeful for Vietnam – failed to win a gold medal in the 1,500m race, finishing third.

However, Vietnamese Vovinam athletes reaped another big success when they carried off two more gold medals. Vu Linh, Hoang Mai, Thanh Son and Van Thoi pocketed a gold medal in the Male Multiple Training category with a total of 292 points. They were followed by the Lao and Iranian athletes.

Artists Kim Long and Ngoc Han also won two more golds in the men’s and women’s 55kg weight Combat category.

Earlier in the morning, Vovinam athletes bagged first two golds for Vietnam.

The same day, Nguyen Trung Kien brought home a gold in the men’s 100m surface swimming event.

By 20.00 Vietnam won a total of 7 gold medals.
