General Giap receives congratulations on Dien Bien Phu victory anniversary
A Government delegation led by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on May 7 paid a visit to General Vo Nguyen Giap to congratulate him on the 55th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954-May 7, 2009).

PM Dung expressed his admiration for General Giap’s great contributions in the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign, describing him as the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army and the most outstanding student of the late President Ho Chi Minh.

The Government leader stressed that the glorious victory at Dien Bien Phu was the result of the correct leadership of the Party, President Ho and the entire people and soldiers, as well as the enormous contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

He wished General Giap health and longevity, so that he might continue to serve as a bright example of an outstanding military commander who devoted his whole life to the national cause of construction and defence.

General Giap was delighted to see the remarkable achievements in socio-economic development in Vietnam over the past years, saying the Dien Bien Phu victory was a historic landmark in the history of the Vietnamese nation and a result of national great unity under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh. He expressed his belief that the Government will continue to implement effective measures to fulfill socio-economic development goals and develop the nation on a par with other countries in the world according to President Ho’s vision.

The same day, leaders of Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), including VOV General Director Vu Van Hien, congratulated General Giap on the occasion.
