The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) plans to provide vocational training and generate jobs in rural areas to cope with the influx of jobless workers returning home from cities.
More and more workers are expected to return home from cities due to the economic downturn.
Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has said that MoLISA will also focus on training rural labour in modern breeding and production methods in order to stimulate household-based production.
The Government will allocate more funds for employment generation in remote and disadvantaged areas, and initiate projects to further develop farming and traditional craft villages, she said.
MoLISA has set itself a target of creating 1.7 million jobs this year, the minister says.
The ministry estimates that about 150,000 jobs could be lost this year as a consequence of the global financial crisis.
