HCM City pioneers hospital wastewater treatment
Cho Ray hospital in Ho Chi Minh City became the first medical institution in Vietnam to install a wastewater treatment station using the AAO technology after a technology transfer on November 29.

The Anaerobic/Anoxic Oxic Process (AAO)-equipped station, transferred by the Advanced International Jointstock Company (AIC), is able to treat 4,000 cu.m. of wastewater a day.

If showing positive results after a 6 month test run in Cho Ray hospital, the technology will be applied to other hospitals across the country.

Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen underscored the urgent need to build a hospital wastewater treatment system on account of environmental protection.

Nguyen Truong Son, Director of Cho Ray Hospital, said the upgrading of the hospital’s obsolete wastewater treatment system is great significance.

The hospital discharges between 2,000 and 2,500 cu. m. of wastewater daily, accounting for one-seventh of the city’s total hospital wastewater volume.
