The pact was signed between Nguyen The Thao, Chairman of the Hanoi city People’s Committee, and his counterpart O Se Hoon during a visit to the capital city of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on July 29.
Under the agreement, Seoul will provide technical assistance to Hanoi in the on-going process of finalising the project on “Basic Planning for Red River Area Development in Hanoi.”
The project, which was already approved by the Vietnamese side, aims to relocate around 180,000 residents along the river bank to clear land for a new urban area along the waterway with three sub-areas and to build flood control canals and strengthen dikes.
The agreement is expected to facilitate cooperation between the two cities in working out the detailed plans.
Seoul promised to help Hanoi clean the polluted To Lich river and organize its 1000th Thang Long – Hanoi anniversary.
A delegation from the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee, led by Chairman Nguyen The Thao, also met with officials from the RoK-based Vietnamese embassy and representative agencies in the country to gain a better understanding of bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK as well as the life of Vietnamese people there.
