Hue offers funds to upgrade garden homes
There is a growing tendency to build nha vuon or garden houses in central Hue city.

The Thua Thien Hue provincial People’s Committee has decided that each owner of a nha vuon will receive financial support of VND100 million (US$5,597) to rebuild their house.

It plans to work closer with tourism companies in the province in general and Hue City in particular to support nha vuon owners, who like to put their houses on view for the public to see.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Hue Relics Preservation Centre, the province has 690 of these distinctive and gardens. In Hue alone, there are 330 such houses with gardens as large as 400 m2 each.

A typical nha vuon in Hue has two main parts: the nha ruong and the surrounding garden, designed according to geomancy and their owner’s spiritual orientation.

Each nha ruong is built with many pillars (cot) and beams (ruong) and its name is derived from this very characteristic.

Another very archetypal feature is that all the pillars and beams are held together by mortice and tenon joints, and not by nails.
