International fashion fair to open in HCM City
The Vietnam International Fashion Fair 2009 will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from July 8-14.

Garments and textiles, leather products, cosmetics and jewellery and other materials for the fashion industry by 150 enterprises from Vietnam and other ASEAN member countries will be displayed in 350 booths at the fair.

During the fair, a seminar on next year’s fashions and fashion shows will be held to introduce popular regional brands, new clothing lines, designers and enterprises, and to create opportunities for customers, producers and enterprises in the field to seek partners and sign contracts.

According to the Vietnam Garment and Textile Group (Vinatex), Vietnam earned US$4 billion from garment and textile exports in the first half of the year, a year-on-year decrease of 4.7 percent, due to the global economic crisis.

At present, the country’s contracts to ship garments and textiles to the US and EU have gradually stabilized, while those to Japan have increased. Many enterprises are shifting attention to the domestic market and new markets in the Middle East and Africa.
