Lawyers to convene first national congress in May
As many as 328 lawyers will gather in Hanoi on May 10-12 for their first national congress, Le Thuc Anh, head of the provisional lawyers council announced on April 10.

The congress will approve the statutes of the Vietnam lawyers federation, elect the national lawyers council and work out its plan of action over the next five years.

According to Mr Anh, the Doi Moi (Renewal) and international integration process requires Vietnam to develop lawyers in both quality and quantity and the Vietnam lawyers federation will carry out this task. Target areas will include big cities, mountainous regions and provinces where lawyers organisations have not been established yet.

The federation will develop training programmes, organise training courses and conduct exchanges for lawyers to improve their skills to keep up with national development.
