Local exporters advised to use e-commerce
The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry have urged exporters in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta to make the best use of e-commerce to increase their exports to the US market.

They jointly held a seminar in Can Tho City on May 29 to update exporters with developments in the US market and equip them with the necessary skills to use the Internet to find buyers to help reduce their production costs.

In the first quarter of this year, Vietnamese exports to the US saw footwear rise by 24 percent, machinery by 31.2 percent and electronics and audio-visual equipment by 33.1 percent. However, these kinds of products face fierce competition from products made in China, India, Brazil and Thailand.

The use of e-commerce can help exporters to raise their competitiveness, reduce service costs, save time, expand their markets and find partners more easily, say experts.

The OSB Company suggested that exporters who wish to market their products in the US use the TraderFax system when looking for potential partners, as the service offers highly accurate, reliable information as well as the state of supply and demand in the market.

According to the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s E-commerce and Information Technology Department Nguyen Manh Quyen, although e-commerce is fairly popular in Vietnam , in 2008 only 18.6 percent of businesses accepted online orders, a decrease of 5.8 percent compared to 2007.
