The Vietnam Tuna Association will soon be established, according to Tran Cao Muu, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fisheries Association.
The Vietnam Tuna Association will cooperate with State agencies to support fishing activities as well as the processing and exporting of tuna. The association will also apply modern technologies to increase the quality and quantity of tuna and reduce the production cost so that tuna businesses can compete against rivals in the region and the world.
It will also cooperate with other businesses to process, preserve and transport tuna fish products in order to build up the Vietnamese tuna brand and promote sustainable development in the future.
Tuna is now Vietnam’s third largest seafood export item. The country has an estimated reserve of about 45,000 tonnes of tuna in its territorial waters, and is capable of catching about 17,000 tonnes a year.
