At the 35th General Assembly of UNESCO held in France on October 22, representatives of 193 member countries approved a resolution to participate the grand ceremony of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi (1010-2010).
UNESCO previously attended a ceremony to mark the 1000th anniversary of Russia’s Yaroslav city and the 1,300th anniversary of Japan’s Nara Heijo-kyo city.
Mr Pham Sanh Chau, Head of the External Culture and UNESCO Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that this is a great honour for Hanoians. This good news and Vietnam’s election to the UNESCO executive council for the 2009-2013 term proved that the international community has recognised Vietnam’s important and active contribution to UNESCO’s activities.
