US$16 million to build drainage system in Phan Thiet
A project to cope with flooding and improve local people’s awareness of environment protection will begin in Phan Thiet in 2012.

Currently, most domestic waste water is thrown into rivers and canals, and 35 percent of Phan Thiet City is flooded in the rainy season.

The Binh Thuan Drainage Joint Stock Company will implement the project under “small and medium sized urban development in the Central Region” programme with a US$16 million loan from the Asia Development Bank.

The project will focus on building drainage pump stations, a plant to treat waste water, a biological lake and other sub-projects, as well as upgrading the old drainage systems and developing new ones.
