Vietnam, Singapore promote comprehensive ties
The Singaporean president, Sellapan Rama Nathan, has affirmed that Singaporean businesses are greatly satisfied with Vietnam’s investment and business climate and want to boost their cooperative ties with Vietnamese partners.

Mr Nathan said he agreed with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Minh Triet, on the need to strengthen and develop the multifaceted, long, close and sustainable relationship between Vietnam and Singapore for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Also during the cordial meeting that followed a solemn reception ceremony for President Triet at Singapore’s Presidential Palace on November 16, Mr Nathan and Mr Triet discussed measures and orientations for effectively implementing the Vietnam-Singapore Connectivity Framework Agreement.

They dealt with a wide range of fields such as finance and banking, education and training, investment, information technology, trade and service, transport, urban planning and construction, health care and telecommunications.

They also agreed to boost cooperation in areas like tourism, culture, national security and defence.

In addition, the Singaporean and Vietnamese leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. President Nathan affirmed that his country will actively support Vietnam in fulfilling its role as President of ASEAN in 2010.

This was the first State-level visit to Singapore by Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, who was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Head of the Presidential Office Nguyen Van Chien, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh and other senior officials. Mr Triet officially visited Singapore after having attended the 17th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on the same day.

The Vietnam-Singapore relations have developed rapidly since Singaporean President S. R. Nathan’s visit to Vietnam in February 2008.
