Vietnam advocates six-party talks on DPRK nuclear issue
Vietnam shares a view that the Six-Party Talks is an important and appropriate framework for the parties concerned to resolve their differences over the nuclear issue of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) through dialogues and peaceful negotiations.

Vietnam’s representative to the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador Le Luong Minh, made the statement at the council’s April 5 session on the DPRK’s missile launch.

Minh said non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, promotion of peaceful use of nuclear energy and technology and nuclear disarmament are three important and mutually reinforcing pillars of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He stressed Viet Nam’s viewpoint on nuclear issues, including the DPRK issue, is guided by this fundamental principled position.

The diplomat affirmed that Viet Nam always advocates and supports efforts for peace and stability in the North East Asian region.

He expressed his concern over the recent developments in the North East Asian region and called upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint in order to void further complicating the situation.
