Vietnam demands China release Vietnamese fishermen
Relevant Vietnamese agencies have asked China to immediately and unconditionally set free 12 Vietnamese fishermen and two fishing boats that were captured by the Chinese side when they were fishing in Vietnam’s territorial waters.

Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Dung delivered the message at a regular press briefing held in Hanoi on July 9, in which he fielded reporters’ questions about the condition of the fishermen.

Vietnam also asked China to compensate the men and the owners for damage to health and property and to quickly inform Vietnam about the results of the handling of the incident according to the stipulations of the consular agreement between Vietnam and China.

China has acknowledged Vietnam’s request and the incident is being resolved through diplomatic channels.
