Vietnam promotes fundamental human rights
Vietnam attaches great importance to safeguarding and promoting fundamental human rights, and the people form the core of the driving force behind the process of national construction and development.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga was responding to reporters’ query in Hanoi on November 27 after the European Parliament recently approved a resolution, containing incorrect information about the human rights situation in Vietnam.

Ms Nga affirmed that Vietnam’s achievements in protecting and promoting human rights have been acknowledged by the international community, and were demonstrated through Vietnam’s national report on human rights delivered at the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in New York in September 2009.

We were disappointed when the European parliament on November 26 adopted the resolution which contains incorrect and biased information about the actual situation in Vietnam, said Ms Nga.

The approval of the resolution will go against the interests of relations between Vietnam and the European Union and provoke indignation amongst Vietnamese people, she concluded.
